Design Technology
Curriculum Intent
Our Design Technology curriculum aims to develop curious, resilient, and practical learners who take pride in creating and making. Through engaging, hands-on experiences, children build essential skills in cooking, food preparation, and crafting, while learning the importance of nutrition, seasonality, and local produce.
Across all year groups, pupils develop key practical skills—such as chopping, baking bread, making soups, and preparing hearty meals—while understanding the design process. They learn to investigate, plan, design, make, and evaluate their work, gaining confidence in problem-solving, using materials, understanding mechanisms and joins, and refining their creations.
We believe that learning by doing fosters creativity, resilience, and independence. Our approach encourages children to experiment, take risks, and develop practical solutions, cultivating a sense of pride and achievement in their finished projects. Through Design Technology, children become innovative thinkers, skilled makers, and lifelong learners, ready to apply their knowledge and creativity in real-world contexts.
