Music at Kentisbeare

“Music is a more potent instrument than any other in education, because rhythm and harmony find their way into the inward places of the soul.” ― Plato

Intent:

Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children. It is a vehicle for personal expression, and it can play an important part in the personal development of people and their wellbeing. Music reflects the culture and society we live in, and so the teaching and learning of music enables children to better understand the world in which they live. Besides being a creative and enjoyable activity, music can also be a highly academic and demanding subject. It also plays an important part in helping children feel part of a community. At Kentisbeare C of E Primary School we provide opportunities for all children to create, play, perform and enjoy music, to develop the skills to appreciate a wide variety of musical forms including natural forms, and to begin to make judgements about the quality of music.

Impact

All pupils will benefit from a high-quality music education which engages and inspires them to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. It will increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. As pupils progress, they will develop a growing musical vocabulary that allows them to critically engage with music. Teaching and learning of music is a reflective process for the children as they are given the opportunities to assess themselves and their peers. The children also celebrate their success and skills with their peers and wider audiences.
